Q&A: How can i quickly dry ink on acetate A4 paper. I printed it a few days ago and it still has not dryed.?
Question by Trish: How can i quickly dry ink on acetate A4 paper. I printed it a few days ago and it still has not dryed.?
Should i try with a hair dryer or what????

Acetate is notorius for long drying times. Is it beading up or anything? If it isn’t I’d say use a fan with the setting on LOW and cool if you have that – the heat will just warp the acetate. If it is, the kind of acetate you’re using isn’t bonding to the ink and the ink will just flake off.
I’ve always had luck just xeroxing my ink drawings on it, the ink in xerox machines sticks well. Then I always hit EVERYTHING with workable fix.

Do XEROX machines use PM DC motors?
Question by magical me: Do XEROX machines use PM DC motors?
I need a high voltage low rpm pmdc motor.. are they used in xerox machine (coz i happened to read this somewhere on the net)?? If not, where else are they used?
Best answer:
Answer by billrussell42
I doubt it, but there are many thousands of different models made by Xerox Corp. and I doubt even an engineer working at Xerox knows what kind of motors were used in each and every one of those tens of thousands.
There are lots of PM DC motors around, but mostly they are low voltage models. There is no reason to design a high voltage unit unless very high power is required, and high power motors are not PM DC motors.
(I interpret “high voltage” as over 500 volts)

Inkjet printers are pretty cheap these days. Most have multiple functions called PSC (Printer/Scanner/Copier) or All-In-One’s. Some can be bought for under $ 50.
Me, I scan pages on my printer, using Photoshop to import the TWAIN source. Then I can manipulate the electronic image with Photoshop and store it in one of several file formats.

What is the most cost effective color printer (re: cost of cartridges) for a small business?
Question by sharbysyd: What is the most cost effective color printer (re: cost of cartridges) for a small business?
A while ago I purchased an inkjet printer for $ 99.00. I thought it was cheap but it goes through cartridges (which cost $ 25 or more each) like crazy, so I think it really wasn’t a very good deal. My brother mentioned something to me about purchasing a business printer which would be more cost effective regarding ink. I’d like to purchase another printer which would be more cost effective regarding the ink. I’d like it to be an all-in-one (fax, copier, scanner). I’d like to be able to print in color. Any help on this topic is appreciated.

I think Color laser is the way to go for business. You don’t want to buy a pair of ink cartridges that could probably cost you more than the printer.
I am looking at Dell 3110cn printer myself. It’s not a big printer brand name like HP and Canon but it’s actually made by Fuji Xerox. I think it’s the best printer so far I have seen. The paper pass is very simple, just one straight line (the less turn the better for laser printers). Consumables in this printer is just the toner cartridges. You will have some add-on options like duplex unit or wireless nic. The price is $ 424 on their website and the cost per page is like 1 cent per page.
This is the color laser I have been waiting for, Low price with good design. The only problem I have with this machine is it’s really too big for personal use. I am just a regular home user. I don’t have the kind of space for a big printer like that. Otherwise, I would buy it in a heart beat.

If you want the all-in-one printer/copier/fax/photo, you should probably look for an HP. They sell all kinds of business related printers. You could probably find one in an Office Depot or Office Max that could be wireless compatible. HP is the one brand that comes to mind for most business related electronics. They last a long time too. Check out their website too, they probably have one that you’re looking for.

Q&A: How many types of printers are there and what are the differences ?
Question by babu: How many types of printers are there and what are the differences ?

Answer by Timothy
There are four main types.
Thermal – Like the old fax machines, uses a waxy paper heated to put an image on paper. Some portable printers use this.
Inkjet – Uses liquid ink put through little nozzles that are heated up and force the ink out onto the paper. Most popular
Laser – Uses a laser beam on a photo sensitive film to attract toner (fine powder, no liquid here) and then puts the toner on the paper. Then the paper goes through a fusor to fuse the toner to the paper.
Solid ink – Xerox only, uses wax based crayons to put an image on paper.
Most people have inkjet, or a small laser. Solid ink is for busy offices mainly that want a good quality with good speed.

Is this even possible? And what is the “best” printer brand(in your opinion)?
Question by Kaiyra: Is this even possible? And what is the “best” printer brand(in your opinion)?
So I have a HP Officejet 4500. The first one we got did not have that little white strip on the scanning glass(I think that the white strip lights up).
So we got another one under the warranty, which was not brand new. It had a white strip, and it was visible whenever it was off, and when we first turned it on, it would move back and forth. So a couple of days ago, I scanned some pictures and it worked fine. Then within two hours of my last scanning, I had to copy a document. It would not copy. I looked at the scanning glass, and there was not a little white strip.
This is probably a dumb question, but do those strips or whatever they are, disappear? Or do they evaporate into thin air? Could it have been suspended and supported, and somehow broke whatever supported it, and fell into the printer?
We called the HP support center, said we had to get a replacement, again. But it’s just like before, we don’t get a new one, we just get one that was broken before and was “fixed”.
The printer is plugged into the wall. We did turn it on, and re-installed it again.
Do you have any idea what happened to that little white strip inside the scanner? We are looking to either get our money back, or get a real brand new printer, or just buy another brand that is better and actually works. What brand do you reccomend?
Best answer:
Answer by Sam Vee
I think what you call a little white strip is a flourescent bulb which is part of the scanner. It illuminates the document so it can be copied. And no, it should not disappear. It should last for a number of years. In my years of hardware support, I have installed many scanners and I don’t recall having one which didnt light up. That’s out of hundreds. Something is very wrong when you are getting this many problems. It sounds like whoever is supposed to refurbish these machines is doing a miserable job.
As for the best all-in-one, keep reading:
The Epson Artisan 725 currently $ 99 direct from Epson after instant $ 100 rebate. Best warranty in the industry, Epson will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one at their expense should you need it. The Artisan 810 is $ 109 in refurb with full 2-year warranty. Since you get free shipping, this works out to the same as the 725. A year ago the refurb Artisan 800 was on sale (almost the identical printer). I and many friends bought it. In a year only one (out of at least a dozen) had to be replaced and it took one day. Not mine and I use it heavily. The Artisans are heavy-duty wireless, scanner/Copier/printers, print to DVD, fast, great output. Best of all, you can get ink for under 50 cents a cartridge. You pay under 2.50 for reusable cartridges and then get $ 2 back for the empties. Or you can buy refillables (which is what Im using now) and refill yourself for pennies. The info on the printer and the link to the epson deal is at http://ccs-digital.com/Best-printer-deals.asp

I need help choosing a printer, please?
Question by sali s: I need help choosing a printer, please?
I am going to buy a new printer and I am overwhelmed by the choices. I want an all-in-one printer, scanner, copier. I want it to have wireless capabilities. I want good quality picture prints. I really don’t care all that much about speed. I would rather have good quality pictures and printed items. I don’t want to spend, at the most, $ 170. What is my best choice? I have tried to read all the reviews I can, but, there are so many to choose from, I get frustrated. Help please!
Oh, and this may be a silly question, but, does it matter if I use Firefox 3 or IE? Are all printers compatible with all browsers?

I find this printer to be great with picture printing.
The ink will be on the expensive side, but you will get great picture. No need to worry about your browser, it will work with any browser. by the way congrat on using Firefox. I like it too.
You can also try Safari, from apple. it’s very easy to use.

Q&A: Help finding a high-volume all in one printer?
Question by Derek D: Help finding a high-volume all in one printer?
I work at a small-town police department and we need a color laser all in one unit that will print around 30,000 pages per year. We use a Samsung CLX-3175fn now and it seems like every part has to be replaced in the printer before the year is up. We burn through cartridges and now have to replace the imaging unit and will soon have to replace rollers, etc. We don’t want to spend thousands on some big printer but want something that has a very cheap price-per-page print and doesn’t require the replacement of parts before the several hundred thousand print count. Network capability is also a must.
Best answer:
Answer by Harley Drive
Any network enabled printer with that print duty will go through extras very fast, color printing is VERY expensive, you need to look at a cheapish commercial printer which are built much more substantially than home type printers, you need someone to calculate all the costs including maintenance over the life of the computer to get a true cost per page you will probably find the more expensive printers are actually cheaper for high output printing overall.

Suggestions for a Tabloid Color Laser Printer?
Question by krista_guerrero: Suggestions for a Tabloid Color Laser Printer?

I actually have several suggestions.
1st – Check out off-lease xerox printers such as the techtronic/phaser machines – many of them have 11×17 capabilities and by getting it off-lease you will pay less for a later model product. Generally these off-lease printers have been refurbished. The cost of the print cartridges may be a bit high – but you will get the quality that you want.
2nd – OkiData makes a high quality new printer that can print 11×17 – but the new ones start at about $ 4,000. You may be able to find a late model off-lease printer.
3rd – Having been in the quick print industry for over 16 years – I have worked with hundreds of artist that need high quality for low cost. Take advantage of your local (not Kinko’s – loved em but they go after the big buck clients) OfficeMax, OfficeDepot or Staples – and if you go to Depot or Max mention that Staples has a sale price of .39 per 8.5 x 11 and will they match that – it is their policy to match a competitors price. This is a good solution if you are looking to make proofs or examples to show the client. Additionally all of the above mentioned companies have the ability to receive your files via e-mail. Give them some time to produce it (like at least 4 hours to work it in to their production schedule – or ask what their turn time is) trust me if you build a good relaitonship with them they will take care of you.
Good luck!
