What is the formula to scale something down in inches for a copy machine?

Question by DizzyUpTheBlonde: What is the formula to scale something down in inches for a copy machine?
I know there is a formula one can use to set the zoom on a copy machine when you want a copy of something, but smaller or larger.

For instance, if you have an 8.5″x11″ document that you want to shrink to fit into a CD case (so, 4.75″x9.5″), you can use this formula to figure out what X and Y to set the zoom percentages to.

I’ve seen others use it. However, I’ve not been able to find this formula. Does any one out there know it?

Greetings,

Assuming you want the length to go from 11″ to 4.75″

This is a reduction of 4.75/11*100% = 43.2%

Regards
