How do you use a fax machine through the internet?
Question by Seventh Day Adventist: How do you use a fax machine through the internet?
I have a regular phone line with no long distance service.
I have yahoo DSL.
I am looking into buying a printer/copier/fax at say a Best Buy or Fry’s Electronics, what models would work with faxing over the internet?
Most importantly, how would I fax using the internet and if possible bypassing a phone long distance company?
Thanks in advance.

There may be a simpler way. If your computer has a modem, and you are running Windows XP (and possibly 2000), you can send a fax straight from the PC. Go to Printers and Faxes and set up faxing. It will ask you several questions, which you need to fill out. But don’t send any faxes yet.
When you are done setting up faxing, go to your program, and go to print, and when it displays what printer you want to use, tell it to fax, then click print. It will ask you a few more questions, then it should send the fax. Make sure your phone line is plugged into the modem before you start.
If you aren’t running XP or 2000, look for faxing software on the internet. The process for setting up the fax should be about the same.

What is the formula to scale something down in inches for a copy machine?
Question by DizzyUpTheBlonde: What is the formula to scale something down in inches for a copy machine?
I know there is a formula one can use to set the zoom on a copy machine when you want a copy of something, but smaller or larger.
For instance, if you have an 8.5″x11″ document that you want to shrink to fit into a CD case (so, 4.75″x9.5″), you can use this formula to figure out what X and Y to set the zoom percentages to.
I’ve seen others use it. However, I’ve not been able to find this formula. Does any one out there know it?

Greetings,
Assuming you want the length to go from 11″ to 4.75″
This is a reduction of 4.75/11*100% = 43.2%

In our office we have a heavy duty color copier, printer, scanner. With tax season around the corner, our concern right now is supplies. We want to know if even though we will only be using black toner, do the color toners also get used, and will those be running out as well? Our copy machine model is Imagistics CM2020.

1. Charging: The surface of a cylindrical drum is given an electrostatic charge by either a high voltage wire called a corona wire or a charge roller. The drum is coated with a photoconductive material, such as selenium. A photoconductor is a semiconductor that becomes conductive when exposed to light.
2. Exposure: A bright lamp illuminates the original document, and the white areas of the original document reflect the light onto the surface of the photoconductive drum. The areas of the drum that are exposed to light (those areas that correspond to white areas of the original document) become conductive and therefore discharge to ground. The area of the drum not exposed to light (those areas that correspond to black portions of the original document) remain negatively charged. The result is a latent electrical image on the surface of the drum.
3. Developing: The toner is positively charged. When it is applied to the drum to develop the image, it is attracted and sticks to the areas that are negativly charged (black areas), just as paper sticks to a toy balloon with a static charge.
4. Transfer: The resulting toner image on the surface of the drum is transferred from the drum onto a piece of paper with a higher negative charge than the drum.
5. Fusing: The toner is melted and bonded to the paper by high-heat and high-pressure rollers.
6. Cleaning: The drum is wiped clean with a rubber blade and completely discharged by light before beginning the process again.
