How do I send a fax with my computer?

Question by summer_00_butterfly: How do I send a fax with my computer?
Can I fax something using my computer and Printer/Scanner/Copier? I imagine that I can, but how?
Okay, so I have a brand new Sony VAIO laptop with Windows XP home edition and my printer/scanner/copier came with Arcsoft plus I have Microsoft Works of course, would any of these programs do this? Otherwise, what might the program be called on my computer?

Answer by Brian S
There are 2 ways to do this:
1. If you have a modem in your computer it probably came with fax software. Use that.

2. If you don’t, or don’t want to follow #1, you would have to use a service to send the fax for you. You can search “fax service” to find them, but eFax.com is probably the oldest and biggest.

How do I use a scanner?

Question by Mama J.: How do I use a scanner?
I bought a new 3 in 1 printer, copier, scanner but don’t know how to scan. We have Windows Vista for our operating system. I am wondering if somebody can please tell me how to scan photos, documents etc into my computer and what program do I need to be in if any to do that?

Answer by sdjk j
1st step is to install the supporting software, that is provided in CD-ROM with your 3 in 1 machine… Then after installing your drivers and supporting software… then put your desired paper or the document in you scanner, if it is flat based then it will be like photocopy… if not then the document will be inserted like the other pages that are inserted to get the print outs… But difference is only this that printing papers are inserted beneath the tray and document to be scanned will be placed up on the tray of your machine… For More information… See the manual of your machine that is most probably provided with your machine as you can learn things easily.

How to clean laser printer, fax, etc.?

Question by pmejiasshopp: How to clean laser printer, fax, etc.?
Here at my job we used to order a product called Scrubex printer/fax cleaning sheets. They were alcohol based sheets you put through the printers, fax machines and copiers to clean them. I found out that they are no longer made (probably some idiots were getting high off of them). Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can clean our equipment. I was thinking of maybe running a sheet of paper with alcohol on it through, but I don’t want to mess anything up. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Answer by Chimanlal Desai

1) Turn off and unplug the laser printer.

2) Remove each toner cartridge and use disposable paper towels to wipe up any excess toner spills collected near and around the rollers. Excess toner buildup in the printer can travel and clog other printer areas with dust. This can drastically affect the quality of your printed copies. Put the toners back in their respective positions and close the unit.

3) Plug the printer back in.

4) Clean the printer rollers with pretreated cleaning printing sheets. Available at most office supply stores, these sheets grab excess dirt and grime as they pass through the rollers. Place a sheet in the top printer tray and run through as if to make a copy. If you opt not to use cleaning sheets, wipe down each roller using disposable paper towels (with the printer unplugged).

5) Clean the glass with either eyeglass cleaning wipes or printer glass cleaning fluid made specifically for cleaning printing machine glass and a soft cotton cloth.

6) Clean the outside of the printer. Take a dry, clean cotton cloth or disposable cloth made of natural fibers and wipe the printer clean from top to bottom.

Question by Kard Kardi: Can someone explain to me what this means about printer interfaces?
We are getting a new copier at work and someone from work sent me this email and I do not understand what this means. I know that most people may think this is common knowledge but I just don’t get it. Help me out before I respond.

Your computer will need to ping the printer to make sure they can talk to each other. Your luck the tech will do this for you. At my work we just have to do it all ourselves. Be sure to pay attention to what the tech does in case your have to un-install & re-install.

No worries!

How do you connect a fax machine to a computer ?

Question by karinakat: How do you connect a fax machine to a computer ?
I have a panasonic fax machine that’s about 1 yr old. My printer is broken and I cant print the document. I want to send a document from my computer to my fax machine so that I can fax to someone. How do I do that. I think there is a way to connect them together and send the document to my fax/copier machine. Thanks.

Answer by Bryan A
There may be a simpler way. If your computer has a modem, and you are running Windows XP (and possibly 2000), you can send a fax straight from the PC. Go to Printers and Faxes and set up faxing. It will ask you several questions, which you need to fill out. But don’t send any faxes yet.

When you are done setting up faxing, go to your program, and go to print, and when it displays what printer you want to use, tell it to fax, then click print. It will ask you a few more questions, then it should send the fax. Make sure your phone line is plugged into the modem before you start.

If you aren’t running XP or 2000, look for faxing software on the internet. The process for setting up the fax should be about the same.

Q&A: How to set my Lexmark x5650 coppier to default Black & White?

I use the Lexmark x5650 copier/printer/fax for work, I want to know how to set it to default for black and white when copying rather than color. I can change it to black white but every time my printer goes to sleep and wakes up it’s back on color…

Best answer:

Answer by smedrik
You cannot set the default to black, default is always factory settings. You will need to manually change it every time you print.

How do you print black ink with color ink cartridges?

Question by Brian: How do you print black ink with color ink cartridges?
Ok, so currently I have a HP Photosmart D110 Series and am extremely low on black ink to the point nothing in black text prints. I remember a few months back when I had low black ink it gave me the option of using my colored cartridges to create composite black.

How can I make it so that the colored cartridges combine to form composite black again?

Best answer:

Answer by Richard J
With most printers you are required to have ink in both the black and color ink cartridges in order to print in black as they work in conjunction with each other. So you will need to have the both color and black ink cartridges with ink

What is a good inexpensive printer with inexpensive ink cartridges.?

Question by Jim: What is a good inexpensive printer with inexpensive ink cartridges.?
I want to replace my Epson stylus 900 printer with another inkjet printer. But I was wondering if there was one that used ink cartridges that are not so expensive ($ 27 for the color cartridge). Any recommendations or advice appreciated.

Answer by Sam
The best deal in a photo printer is the Epson Artisan 800 refurb direct from epson.com for $ 109 under clearance. It’s a wireless copier/scanner/fax/photo/CD printer with 6 individual ink cartridges for high photo quality. The best warranty in the industry. For two years, Epson will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one should you need it.

If that’s beyond your budget there are several models in the $ 50-$ 80 range with 1 year warranty like the NX415 and workforce 600.

Triple capacity ink cartridges for Epson are under $ 3 and you can get 11 free cartridges every month at http://www.ccs-digital.com/freeink.asp

How do I connect a scanner to my laptop?

Question by Wolfie [alfa female]: How do I connect a scanner to my laptop?
I have a Dell Laser MFP 1815dn scanner/copier/fax that currently is only used for faxing and copying. How do I set up the scanner and my laptop (windows vista) so I can scan things onto my computer? Please explain with as much detail as possible. Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by john O
First, if it is already set up, you should be able to use the scanner feature just as you do the coping. Otherwise you will need the CD from the scanner, install it follow directions and plug USB or whatever cable/port your scanner has.

How do I scan photos for the internet as examples?

How do I scan photos for the internet as examples?
I draw portraits professionally for people. How do I scan photos for the internet as examples?
I draw pencil portraits for people, and am wondering what is the best way to scan/get a photo of them for the internet.
What I mean is how do I literally scan the picture? Do I use a copy machine? Just a take a picture of it with a digital camera? I want a professional photo of it so that I can post it on my website.

Answer by LPunch
A scanner is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image. Common examples found in offices are variations of the desktop (or flatbed) scanner where the document is placed on a glass window for scanning.

You can purchase a scanner anywhere like best buy, walmart electronics…frys etc. You can also take a picture of it and upload it but the quality wouldn’t be as good.

Here is an image example of a scanner: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e3/Scanner.view.750pix.jpg/220px-Scanner.view.750pix.jpg
